Description
Bright pink ombre blooms, the new and improved Hachmann’s Polaris Rhododendron (Rhododendron ‘Hachmann’s Polaris’) is a compact, mounding shrub that fits easily into any sized garden design! Featuring densely packed, uniquely fuzzy foliage – something you don’t see on Rhododendrons that often – it really takes broad-leaf evergreens up a notch!
A profuse bloomer Hachmann’s Polaris produces large clusters of vivid flowers. Blooming from a young age, this Rhododendron continues to put on a show each spring! These frilly pink flowers, with ruffled darker edgings, cover the plant in late mid-season and create a lovely ombre effect!
Emerging from darker burgundy-red buds open into superbly bright-pink, ruffled blooms. Each petal fades to have light pink, almost white throats. These gorgeous blooms are irresistible to local bees and butterflies, plus those funnel-shaped blooms attract Hummingbirds!
Set against amazingly deep, dark-green foliage, the blooms just shine! The glossy leaves have a hint of indumentum (peach fuzz!) on the underside! Young plants are very dense and compact, spreading wide with age. Even when not in bloom, this compact Rhododendron holds those leaves and color all winter!
Planting and Application:
That gloriously dark foliage looks amazing as a backdrop to other shrubs and perennials. Adding mystery and depth to the landscape with a designer’s touch! Use Hachmann’s Polaris as an opulent hedge, just short enough to define your space instead of overtaking it, yet tall enough to offer privacy year-round! An amazing low-screening plant, you and your neighbors won’t mind this living fence!
Those vivid blooms and dark presence really show their stuff when planting Hachmann’s Polaris in drifts and en masse. Feeling right at home in the dappled sun at the base of a tree line, in woodland areas with partial shade, and edge-of-the-forest plantings. Flowering privacy screens are worth their weight in gold!
Adding elegance around patios, bumping up the curb appeal as a shady foundation planting, and dramatically flanking entrances and walkways! That tricky shady, moist area on the side of the house or garage will become the highlight of your property with a row of these beauties!

ProPlantTips for Care:
Rhododendrons really does their best in part shade, whether that is morning sun with adequate afternoon shade, or continuous dappled sun all day. Requiring cooler, moist soils that are slightly acidic, lime-free soils that are rich in organic matter and have the capacity to retain plenty of moisture in dry weather. These will benefit greatly from a nice layer of mulch. At least 3-4 inches thick, this mulch layer over the root system will keep the roots cool, insulate them from the winter’s chill and hold in moisture!
Rhododendrons need well-drained soil and hate “wet feet
