A brightly colored orange/red fruit with a slightly sour flavor, they are considered a superfood because they are believed to boost the immune system
  • These plants are easy to grow in your own backyard. They will fruit and flower throughout the summer until the first frost. If left unpruned, they can grow as tall as 10-13 feet with a spread of about 4 feet.
  • Goji is also known by a number of other names including goji berry, wolfberry, boxthorn, and matrimony vine. In China, where most of the world’s commercial Goji berry production is found, most plants with high quality fruit are of Lycium barbarum L. var. barbarum, though some Lycium chinense Mill. var. chinense is also grown.
  • Goji plants are adaptable and grow in a range of soil types, with a preferred pH of 6.5 to 7.0. Goji won’t tolerate salinity well (though information can be found indicating that some of its relatives will) and prefers high fertility soils. The best growth is made in relatively light soils that are well-drained such as sandy loams or loams and in areas with plenty of sunshine.
  • Goji plants are among the more drought-tolerant of the fruiting trees, but only after establishing their roots. Water thoroughly and consistently during the first year in order to keep the delicate new roots moist. Avoid overwatering to prevent blossom end rot.
