Description
Aloe cv. ’Black Gem’ f. variegata is a rare and elegant ornamental succulent, prized for its unique variegated foliage. Combining the dense structure of the classic Black Gem with cream or pale green marbling, this form brings a bright and contrasting touch to succulent collections.
Origin: Horticultural hybrid resulting from a cross between Aloe and Haworthia (often classified among the Gasteraloe ). The variegata form was selected for its stable variegation and unusual coloration.
Growth: Slow to moderate growth. It forms a compact rosette 10 to 15 cm in diameter, composed of thick, triangular leaves, dark green to purplish-brown, marbled with streaks or cream to pale yellow areas. The colors vary depending on the light and temperature.
Flowers: Occasional flowering in spring or summer. The slender flower stalks bear small tubular orange to red flowers, typical of Aloe hybrids.
Light: Prefers bright light to gentle, direct sunlight. Well-lit exposure accentuates the variegation and dark highlights of the foliage. Too much shade reduces contrast and slows growth.
Watering: Water only when the soil is completely dry. While very drought-tolerant, this plant does not tolerate overwatering. Reduce watering frequency when it enters dormancy.
Substrate: Use a perfectly draining succulent potting mix, enriched with pumice or perlite to prevent moisture stagnation and ensure optimal root aeration.
Toxicity: Non-toxic to humans and animals.
